What is The Sarah Cannon Cancer Center?
The Sarah Cannon Cancer Center (SCCC) is a network of 9 affiliated medical facilities in Tennessee and Southern Kentucky that provides diagnosis and treatment to cancer patients. Our network is composed of physicians and teams who care for cancer patients throughout the region. This allows our patients treatment and medical care in a community setting close to home. All of our facilities operate cooperatively to provide state-of-the-art diagnostic tests as well as the latest treatment modalities.

Through the work of The Sarah Cannon Cancer Center and its network of over 100 medical oncologists, gyn oncologists, and radiation oncologists in 2 states, more patients are benefiting from life saving cancer diagnosis and treatment. The Sarah Cannon Cancer Center Network diagnosed and treated over 4000 newly diagnosed cancer patients last year.

When did The Sarah Cannon Cancer Center begin?
The history of The Sarah Cannon Cancer Center starts in 1983 when Sarah Cannon was diagnosed with breast cancer. Sarah Cannon, known worldwide for her Grand Ole Opry character "Minnie Pearl", became an advocate for early detection, patient education and research-based treatment. In 1991, she gave her name to our cancer center.

Who is The Sarah Cannon Cancer Center?
The Sarah Cannon Cancer Center team includes medical oncologists, hematologists, gyn oncologists and radiation oncologists, as well as surgeons, pulmonologists, gastroenterologists, gynecologists, urologists, neurologists, internal medicine physicians, radiologists, pathologists and others who provide diagnostic and treatment services to our patients in our facilities. Also included are the nurses, mammographers, laboratory technologists, case managers, social workers, rehabilitation specialists, nutritionists and the cancer data management team.

Another important component of The Sarah Cannon Cancer Center staff are those in the research department, based primarily in the offices at Centennial Medical Center, Nashville, Tennessee. These are the individuals who design the protocols, enroll the patients, monitor the results, and analyze the data. However, patients enrolled in protocols frequently recieve their treatments in their home communities.

Where is The Sarah Cannon Cancer Center?
The Sarah Cannon Cancer Centers are located at HCA affiliated facilities throughout Tennessee and Southern Kentucky. These facilities range from a tertiary care hospital to community hospitals and local clinics. There are additional facilities included because of physician alliances.

Why has The Sarah Cannon Cancer Center continued to flourish?
The Sarah Cannon Cancer Center is the natural outgrowth of two national movement in the medical field in recent years. One is the increased awareness of and emphasis on clinical trials as an important modality for determining the most effective treatment for cancer. The research department of the Sarah Cannon Cancer Center has experienced tremendous growth, coinciding with the ability to offer clinical trials in more facilities, through more practitioners, to more patients. The second factor in the development of the Sarah Cannon Cancer Center is that, as the alliances between the HCA affilitated facilities developed, mutual goals led to a sharing of experience.

What is a cancer screening and who should have it?
Cancer screening examinations help detect cancer at its earliest and most treatable stages. Annual Screening are recommended for ALL adults.
